Tetraphenylporphyrin (meso-tetraphenylporphyrin) is a synthetic porphyrin derivative with a symmetrical structure consisting with four pyrroles, four methines and four phenyl groups at meso position. Tetraphenylporphyrin is a hydrophobic dark purple solid with good solublity in nonpolar organic solvents such as chloroform and benzene. Tetraphenylporphyrin has a strong absorption peak at 420nm and could be used as a photosensitizer for the photochemical preparation of siglnet oxygen.
